Newest additions

I replaced the old Empi shifter with a Jamar Pro-X Series Shifter  When used with the Jamar side shifter it is the  most excellent, smooth and positive shift.

I added a new dash panel and remade the top of the casket "tank"

The new gauges were purchased from Speedhut.com they are real nice.  The speedometer is GPS.

As a result of adding the new gauges and some extra lights I found that when my dual radiator fans started up I had a significant voltage drop in the system.  I remembered reading in one of the Subaru forums about adding a larger alternator to the EA82 engine.  So, I spent some time on the web trying to find the write up which I eventually  did.  They described how I can convert the stock 55 amp alternator to a 1986-1987 Nissan Maxima 90 amp alternator.  I also came across an article about the Subaru XT6.  It seems when Subaru switched to a dual radiator fan system from a single one they had to put a larger amperage alternator on it.  So I figured as I have dual fans on mine maybe that is what I have to do.

I went down to my local Westbay/Napa dealer and purchased a 1986 Maxima alternator.  It cost about $71.00 exchange.

As you can readily see the Nissan alternator has a serpentine pulley while the stock one has the fan.  The pulley on the old one is split like the VW's are.  I took the Nissan alternator down to my local rebuild shop and they found a pulley in their parts stuff that would fit onto it.  The fan and the old pulley are not used. I also found an electrical plug for it there as the stock one is different.  The pins are the same S and L that the stock one was so all I had to do was cut the old one off and solder the new one on.  The only other difference is the bolt used to adjust the fan belt to the alternator.  The one on the stock alternator was a 8X100, the one on the Nissan is 8X125.

Here are a couple of pictures with the new alternator installed

Needless to say, No more voltage drop!!!!!!
