NEW FORKS 8

Well, forget the Harley front end.  I've decided to go with Trikerbob's front end. Just build my own as in this picture:

As Trikerbob recommended I built a wood mock up of the front end to fit my trike.

It was obvious that I built the wood forks too short.  I measured them at 3 feet.  When I buy the metal ones I'll get them 4 foot long then after I measure for the trail I can cut them to size.  The rocker from the bottom  of the forks to the front tire will end up being 1/2 x 12.  The cross braces positions will be changed as I progress.

Purchased the neck bolt (mine seemed to be an odd size M24X240MM) and a Jam nut.  Cost $25.14.

Went down to our local metal salvage yard and bought the tubes.  Mine are 1 1/2 inch square and  a 1/4 inch wall.  The total

cost of the tubes and two 8 inch x 4 inch x 1 inch thick (Trees) was $31.96.  Total cost, so far:  $57.10

Purchased 1 flat bar 1/2x2 3ft long and had it cut into 3 1 ft. pieces (rockers/brace)  Cost: $11.12.  Total cost, so far: $68.22

Bought the 3/4 inch nuts/bolts/lockwashers (to bolt the fork tubes to the top tree)  Cost: $8.44. Total cost so far: $$76.66

Took the pieces for the trees to my machinist to have drilled and shaped.  Cost: $45.61. Total cost so far:  $122.27

Ground the 3/4 inch nut down to fit inside the tubes and welded them in.

Purchased new timkin bearings for the neck.  Cost: $42.65.  Total cost so far:  $164.92

Purchased the CM200 rear shocks.  Cost $80.  Total cost so far:  $244.92
