The VW-Brazil  "Re-Started" making the air-cooled bug in Brazil and Mexico in 1980 after Germany discontinued the air-cooled engine powered VW's (in 1979) until 2001 when the last ones rolled off the assembly line. They had to "Form" a "few" of the body panels and used ONLY swing-axle transaxles the whole time. That shock tower is a "boxed-in" version because they didn't have the mold for the "solid" tower that Germany used (destroyed in '67)

The first step is to construct an engine cage.  This cage is removable.

This cage is optional.  See below.  The trike we are building here will have the cage installed.

You need to have two angle pieces.  Cut them both to the width shown here.  Tac weld one of the to the top of the shock struts  The other will be placed onto this one and will be bolted to it so that the two will come apart.  The cage will be welded to the top one later.

Example of how the permanent angle is welded to the shock towers.

Holes are drilled to hold the top removable angle to the trike.

The two pieces shown here are the rear support of the cage and also will be part of the trailer hitch.
